About this app
All of the questions and study material in this app are hand-written in house by our team of IT professionals (all who have passed their CompTIA Security+ exams) and are based on the content in Professor Messer’s video series, the official CompTIA study guides and Josh Madakor’s practice material.
How to Study For the CompTIA Security+ Exam
1. Content review – we recommend watching Professor Messer’s (free) Security+ video series to learn the exam content. We’ve embedded this series in the “study” section of our app. You can also watch it on Youtube or Professor Messer’s website.
2. Practice quizzes – once you’re comfortable with the content, start taking quizzes topic by topic, until you’re consistently scoring over the passing grade on each topic.
3. Timed exams – after you’ve mastered all topics, we recommend taking a full timed exam to simulate the real test conditions.
4. Once you’re passing practice exams and you’re passing probability score is at your target, you’re ready to take the test!
Exam Information
CompTIA Security+ is a vendor-neutral credential that validates critical foundational knowledge and skills in IT security. The current exam version, SY0-701, launched on November 7, 2023, will remain active for three years. The exam is computer-based and has 90 questions. The time limit is 90 minutes. Candidates must earn a score of 750 on a 100–900 point scale to pass (which translates to around 81%). Question formats include multiple choice and performance-based questions (PBQs), where you solve problems in a simulated, interactive IT environment, such as command-line or network scenarios.
Recommended Experience
While CompTIA doesn’t enforce strict prerequisites, they advise candidates to hold CompTIA Network+ and at least two years of IT administration experience with a security focus.
